Instructions
-
Click Start Lesson from the lesson script page (either at the top or on the right side). For our example, we're in French > Bakery > Buying a loaf of bread (Acheter du pain).
-
Navigate through the Game Settings. Under Game Mode, select Pronunciation. From here you'll also have to set up your preferred Extension and Target Accuracy. Click Play! once your setup is done.
-
Click the triangle button to start the lesson.
-
The lesson starts with the native speaker talking to you and asking you a question. The text box at the top shows the script in the target language. There is a back button (available if you're further into the conversation) and a play button to replay the video. When it's your turn to respond, the video will pause and the microphone will start recording your response.
Tip: You don't have to reply straight away, particularly for learners who haven't completed this lesson before. We recommend stopping the microphone by clicking the red pause icon. The recording is paused when the icon changes into a green microphone icon. -
The right panel consists of menu icons that let you toggle the following settings:
Script and Translation
The country flags let you toggle between the target language and base language translation that will be displayed in the script.
Sound effects
The alarm bell icon lets you turn off / on sound effects and disable / enable graphics.
Slow mode
The turtle icon lets you slow down the video and audio by 20%.
Full-screen
This lets you switch your screen into full-screen mode. Our videos are filmed in 360° so you can easily click and hold to drag the screen. Look behind you!
VR mode
This lets you view your screen in VR mode when you're using a VR headset.
-
The response at the bottom is what ImmerseMe wants you to say out loud. You can press the play button to listen to an audio by a native speaker (Remember, you can use the turtle icon to slow it down by 20%), and the skip button on the right takes you to the next part of the conversation without getting a point. Use this option if you get 'stuck' but ideally you will be able to breeze through this sentence with a bit of practise!
-
When you're ready to record your response, press the microphone and speak as clearly and accurately as you can. Stop and start the microphone as many times as you need to to get the sentence uttered correctly.
High five when you get through the whole conversation! 🙌 Now you should be ready to progress to Typing mode, or you could also skip to Spelling or Translation mode.
