Tip: Please refer to the article How do I use 'Pronunciation' mode? for a rundown of menu icons available within ImmerseMe.
Instructions
-
Click Start Lesson from the lesson script page (either at the top or on the right side). For our example, we're in French > Bakery > Buying a loaf of bread (Acheter du pain).
-
Navigate through the Game Settings. Under Game Mode, select Spelling. From here you'll also have to set up your preferred Extension. Click Play! once your setup is done.
-
The lesson starts with the native speaker talking to you and asking you a question. At the bottom of the screen you would see a dialogue box containing blank fields and punctuations where you would type the sentence. This mode is one step further from Typing mode, as the texts are hidden and you would have to correctly type the sentences from memory. For languages with accented letters like French, you can access a range of options after typing the base letter. For example, typing the letter a will give us the option to use the normal a (press 1), à (press 2), â (press 3), or æ (press 4).
Tip: There are a few alternative ways to select the required accented letter:
➤ Use the assigned number from your keyboard (1, 2, 3, 4, etc), as explained above.
➤ Click the letter using your mouseNote: If we're missing any variations, please let us know by submitting a feedback via the pink Feedback button on the right. -
Once you've successfully typed out the sentence 100% accurate, the video will resume to the next sentence. This time, you would type the response to the question. Often there's more than one possible response, so you can choose which one you'd like to type. In our example below, there's only 1 available response option to type.
Tip: We recommend pressing the play button to listen to the next sentence. Listening practise is highly beneficial to language learning!Note: If it appears like you've typed the sentence correctly and it's not submitting, please let us know by submitting a feedback via the pink Feedback button on the right. -
You can also change the input language using the keyboard icon on the left of the dialogue box (shown below). This is useful for languages such as Mandarin Chinese which sometimes have English words within the sentence.
- Once you have correctly typed the sentence, the lesson will continue as normal and you will need to continue typing each sentence in the conversation whilst ensuring correct spelling.
Amazing progress!👍 Now you should be ready to move on to Translation mode. Or feel free to go back and revise Pronunciation or Typing mode.
